Week of September 11th-15th
Grammar/Writing: In Grammar, we are working on parts of speech and identifying them in sentences. Our new series, Jolly Grammar, is challenging and pushing children to use multiple ways to identify parts of speech. I am building in isolation skills with “Morning Work” to reinforce foundational skills. While I know and your children can tell you, they are definitely maximizing instructional time! We are ALWAYS busy!
Writing: If your child hasn’t decorated their writer’s notebook, please have them do that. I am building writing portfolios, so your child has been researching, writing, drafting, and completing their first “essay”. I have modeled and framed a big chunk of this first essay to build strategies to eventually move to student independent essays. I think (hehe) they are enjoying it! We are on our second draft, will then move to third, and I can’t wait for their final draft! I bet they can’t either! While I know this has been a great amount of work, you will see growth. Their hard work will pay off!! I PROMISE!
Reading: On Monday, I will be pulling students to assess reading levels, this will help build Guided Reading and Strategy Groups. Students will continue to focus on strategies and multitasking during reading with skills to deepen comprehension. Book reports will be mandatory in a few weeks. I will send out details. If you do not have a computer at home, pencil and paper is always accepted!
Social Studies: This week I will be assigning a SS project. Students will choose one state from Southwest or Southeast region to do a research project on Google Slides. Rubric will be shared. Details will be given Monday to students. Mid week I am going to move to Midwest region states intro/quiz. Thought this may be a nice break from memorization, and to build in a research project.
Math: We are beginning EUREKA MODULE 2 this week. A pre assessment was given Thursday. From this data, I will begin introducing properties of multiplication to help set the framework for Modules 2 Lesson 1. Properties of mult are-commutative,associative, distributive, and identity. If you want to get a head start, start having your child identify them.
